Okadera

Okadera| Grand Mercure Nara Kashihara [Official]

Okadera is located on the hillside of Okayama, east of Asuka Village. The original name of the temple was Ryugaiji Temple, but since ancient times, it has been called "Aji Temple in Asuka no Oka" = "Okadera" from the name of the land. It is also gaining worship as the seventh temple of the 33 Kannon Sacred Grounds in Western Japan, and many prayers from all over Japan visit as Japan's first evil spirit sacred place.

The main statue of Nyoirin Kannon [Important Cultural Property] is Japan's largest statue (a Buddha statue made of soil) and is said to be Japan's three major Buddhas.

Rhododendron in the spring, hydrangea in the rainy season, and autumn leaves in the fall color the precincts. During Golden Week, "Hana no Ike-Tenjiku Peony floating on the surface of the water" is held every year, where Tjiku Peony (Dahlia) decorates the water surface, and you can enjoy the gorgeous Okadera of spring.
